ILAGAN CITY | May 5, 2023 – Twenty-six (26) individuals learned the proper dispensing of pesticides and fertilizers during the Accredited Safety Dispenser (ASD) training conducted by the Fertilizer and Pesticide Authority (FPA) Region II at DA-CVRC, San Felipe, Ilagan City, Isabela on May 4-5, 2023.

ASD training is required for store owners/proprietors and Individual Business Owners (IBOs) to properly dispense fertilizer and pesticide (f/p) products to farmers. This training highlighted Presidential Decree 1144, general information and safe handling of fertilizer and pesticides, and first aid management in case of pesticide poisoning.

Regional Officer (RO) Leonardo Bangad emphasized that the training should be taken not only as a requirement for acquiring an FPA license but also as a social responsibility to the public. “Your role is vital to our farmers. You are a catalyst of technology transfer, promotion of food security, and food safety”, he said during his opening remarks.

Further, the team discussed the mode of action of each active ingredient and pesticide resistance development and management. Provincial Officer (PO) Henry Cayaban, Jr. reminded the participants to teach their consumers the procedure of rotating the use of pesticides by mode of action to avoid the development of pesticide resistance.

The participants took the 50-item examination after the discussion on the second day of the training for evaluation. ###
