    Unifying the FPA workforce towards a better future

    The Fertilizer Pesticide Authority held its National Planning Workshop cum Standardization of Field Monitoring and Enforcement Procedures at the Lohas Hotel in Clark, Pampanga City. The following are the topics tackled during the workshop: 2016 Budget Utilization and Income Collection; 2016 Accomplishments; 2018 Budget Proposals and 2018-2020 Physical and Income Targets; Freedom of Information (FOI); Online Database of Handlers with Hands-on Exercise; and Establishment/Streamlining/Standardization of Field Monitoring and Enforcement Procedures.

    Celebrating the essence of being gender-equal

    In celebration of the National Women’s Month, the Fertilizer and Pesticide Authority-Gender and Development Focal Point System (GAD-FPS) organized zumba dance classes every Monday for the entire month of March. The women and men of the FPA joined the classes to learn, perform, exercise and enjoy.

    Boosting the knowledge and skills of industry professionals

    The FPA-Regional Office 12 headed by Supervising Agriculturist Ms. Alita C. Bornea conducted a training on Accredited Safety Dispenser of Fertilizer and Pesticide (ASD) in HoF Mansion Inn, Balindog, Kidapawan City. The ASD Training aimed to educate stakeholders on the Presidential Decree 1144; general fertilizer and pesticide information; handling and storage; transport and distribution; poisoning and first aid; and other related topics on the regulation of fertilizer and pesticide.

    Enforcing the law and fulfilling the mandates in the field

    The FPA-Regional Office 7 led by Supervising Agriculturist Mr. Arnulfo L. Arausa, Jr. visited the ATLAS Fertilizer Corporation and conducted a monitoring and inspection activity in their manufacturing/processing plant located in Toledo City, Cebu. The ATLAS Fertilizer Corporation, incorporated on October 10, 1957, is the oldest operating and the first fertilizer company in the Philippines to achieve full scale manufacturing of a complete line of mixed fertilizer grades, alternatively known as compound inorganic fertilizer and more famously called by our farmers as the NP- NPK- NK fertilizers.

    Protecting the health of our fellow Filipinos

    The FPA-Regional Office 12 headed by Supervising Agriculturist Ms. Alita C. Bornea conducted an investigation of the reported alleged pesticide poisoning of school children in one barangay in Kidapawan City. They talked with the locals, the health center, as well as the sprayer/s. This is in line with the mandate of the FPA to protect the public from the inherent risks and hazards of pesticides.

    Fortifying collaborations and immersing in the field

    The FPA Executive Director Wilfredo C. Roldan visited the FPA-Regional Offices 1 and 2 and immersed with the FPA field staff to strengthen collaborations with the industry. They visited the Bayer Experimental Station in Tublay, Benguet to conduct monitoring and inspection activities. Dir. Roldan also participated in an Officers’ Dinner Meeting in Supreme Hotel, Baguio and met with executives and leaders of the industry companies located in the area.

    The FPA-Regional Office 12 led by Supervising Agriculturist Ms. Alita C. Bornea conducted a meeting with the client and owner of the apprehended unregistered foliar fertilizer. This is in line with the FPA’s mandate to make safe, affordable and registered fertilizer and pesticide products available in the market for usage.

    Strengthening connections and alliances for better productivity

    The FPA-Regional Office 7 represented by Agriculturist II Mr. Noel V. Negre participated in the consultative meeting of the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation relative to their proposed re-organizational plan spearheaded by Mr. Cresencio Deligero, Jr., PCIC Regional Manager II. The meeting was held at the Golden Valley Hotel.

    Enforcing the law and fulfilling the mandates in the field

    The FPA-Regional Office 5 led by Supervising Agriculturist Ms. Lilia S. Latumbo conducted a clean-up drive operation among the fertilizer and pesticide handlers in the Virac, Catanduanes. Through this activity, products that are unregistered, adulterated, smuggled, mislabelled, or bears any other violations against the law will be apprehended and penalized.

    As part of the regular monitoring and enforcement activities of the FPA in the field, the FPA-Regional Office 7 led by Supervising Agriculturist Mr. Arnulfo L. Arausa, Jr. conducted inspection and monitoring activities upon the arrival of the MV Queen from the port of Zhangjiang China to the port of Atlas Fertilizer Corporation, Sangi, Toledo City, Cebu carrying 6,600 MT in bulk of Di-ammonium Phosphate.

    The FPA-Regional Office 7 headed by Supervising Agriculturist Mr. Arnulfo T. Arausa conducted an inspection and monitoring activity at the YARA Fertilizer Philippines Warehouse located in Tipolo, Mandaue City, Cebu. Random weighing of fertilizer and fertilizer sample gathering for laboratory analysis were also done in order to monitor and ensure the quality of the fertilizer products.
