Dir. Lansangan leads fertilizer warehouse inspection in San Fernando, La Union

SAN FERNANDO, LA UNION | AUGUST 18, 2023 – The Fertilizer and Pesticide Authority (FPA) Executive Director Julieta Lansangan, together with FPA Ilocos Region Regional Officer (RO) Joseph Andre John Martinez, led the team on August 17, 2023, to inspect a fertilizer warehouse, its products' registration certificates, and license to operate in San Fernando City, La Union.
During the inspection, Dir. Lansangan found a registered product without a lot or batch number indicated on its label, which was considered mislabelled and a violation of Presidential Decree 1144.
Proper labeling on fertilizer and pesticide packaging is important since it provides the buyers with all the information and directions for its safe and effective use.
The team discussed the importance of proper product labeling and enjoined the registrants to comply with the product labeling standards imposed by the agency. This process was also the company’s responsibility to the farmers and end users who used their products.
In addition, the team advised them to continuously maintain the product credibility and strictly follow good warehousing practices that could help keep the good conditions of the products before reaching the farmers.
The inspection was a follow-up to the initial surveillance conducted by FPA Ilocos Region last July 4, 2023, in response to an anonymous complaint regarding the legality of operations and non-compliance to the Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) of the establishment. The complainant alleged that the concerned establishment had improper waste disposal, operating without an LGU permit, and was non-compliant with the ECC.
The team initially surveyed the company's management and protocol for their waste materials, which was found compliant. They also verified all necessary documents for the license to operate and its product registration certificates. ###
