FPA Region V upskills farmer-entrepreneurs on safe handling of pesticides

PILI, CAMARINES SUR | May 23, 2023 – To protect the public from the inherent risks of pesticides and address concerns in food safety, the FPA Bicol Region collaborated with the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office V (DA-RFO5) to conduct the “Pesticide Training: Pesticide Safe Handling, to Ensure Food Safety and Public Health Protection” at Sta. Catalina Hall, FOD Bldg., DA-RFO5 Cmpd., San Agustin, Pili, Camarines Sur on May 16, 2023.

 

Led by FPA Regional Officer (RO) Gabriel Atole, the team equipped the participants with general information on pesticides and its label, as well as safe handling, application, storage, and disposal.

 

In addition, Ms. Monalisa Monay, R.N., a nurse toxicologist of the Bicol Medical Center – Poison Control Center (BMC-PCC), discussed the guidance and prevention of pesticide poisoning. She reminded the farmers to take precautions in handling the products and be responsible for themselves and their laborers to ensure occupational safety on their farms.

 

RO Atole extended his gratitude to the BMC-PCC, DA-RFO5, and participants for successfully conducting the training.

 

He encouraged them to practice what they had learned during the training and strengthened the partnership with different stakeholders for pesticide safe and judicious use.

 

A total of 48 farmers attended the said activity. ###
