PhilGap training certifies 59 farmers in Davao Oriental – Fifty-nine (59) farmers from TIFACO and BADIACO attended the two (2) batches of training on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) in Cateel (May 10) and Banaybanay (May 12), Davao Oriental.
Provincial Officer (PO) Junette Cano discussed the two (2) modules of PhilGAP, specifically Environmental Management and Worker's Health, Safety, and Welfare. She highlighted the proper use and handling of agricultural inputs and safety equipment to cultivate their farmlands.
She also emphasized the importance of pesticide label information, including the Maximum Residue Limit (MRL) and Pre-Harvest Interval (PHI). These will help the farmers to properly use products and maximize their potential in helping the crops.
The training was organized by the Department of Agriculture Region 11 PhilGap team, which aimed to certify farmers into adopting GAP to produce high-quality crops while considering the environmental protection and safety of the field workers. ###
